It depends on your dish (Mini, Standard, or Performance), what you're mounting to (vehicle, RV, boat, trailer, roof rack), and your surface. The Mini is compact, low-power, and versatile — the go-to for overlanding, van life, RV travel, and single-vehicle use. The Standard offers more throughput when you need it. The Performance dish is built for the most demanding conditions — marine, high speed, severe weather, and command-center or high-user setups. We make mounts for all three.

Magnets are the simplest and most portable option and grip any steel surface (or a non-magnetic surface with our Steel Mounting Discs). Roof-rack mounts attach to your existing crossbars for a fixed or quick-release install. Vacuum mounts work on smooth, non-magnetic surfaces and are fully removable — but the indicators must be checked before every drive. Our Mount Finder walks you through which fits your situation.

Not currently — we make the mounts and hardware, and you'll typically purchase the dish directly from Starlink. That said, we may offer dishes in the future and occasionally have pre-owned dishes available. If you're in the market for a dish, reach out and check with us.

Yes. The Mini supports in-motion use and steers electronically, so the right way to vehicle-mount it is flat, pointing straight up. A flat, low-profile mount from StrikerFab gives the dish a clear view of the sky no matter which way you're driving, and keeps wind load down at speed.

Pick the mount type for your surface — magnets, vacuum mounts, a roof-rack kit, or direct bolt-on mounting — then install the dish in your StrikerFab mount, place or bolt it to the vehicle, and run power (either the standard Starlink cable through a window or door seal, or a hardwired 12V DC connection). With a StrikerFab magnet mount, the first setup takes minutes; after that it's seconds on and off.

No. Magnets and vacuum mounts are completely drill-free, and roof-rack kits bolt to your existing rack. Even our StrikerFab Steel Mounting Discs for non-magnetic roofs go on with strong VHB adhesive — no fasteners, no holes.

Yes, when it's built right. StrikerFab magnet setups hold hundreds of pounds of force — about 260 lb with four magnets and 520 lb with eight — far beyond the wind load on a flat-mounted Mini at speed. In fact, our Mini mounts have been tested by state officials at over 130 mph. The one rule that matters: seat the mount on a clean, flat steel surface before every drive.

Two options. Our StrikerFab Rock & Bug Deflector shields the leading edge of the dish, and our StrikerFab Polycarbonate Shield covers the whole dish face against impacts and weather. The shield adds about a pound and also protects the dish in transport — you can toss it behind the seat without worry.

The dish itself is weather-rated by Starlink for permanent outdoor mounting, so everyday rain and snow are no problem. Washing at home in your driveway? You can leave everything on. Going through an automatic car wash is harder on your gear — we'd remove any mount that isn't statically bolted down, and we'd keep a StrikerFab Polycarbonate Shield on to protect the dish face (especially in a brush wash — a touchless wash is gentler). Either way, make sure your power cable is properly routed and secured to the vehicle so nothing catches — this matters most in a car wash.

Yes — just enable the snow-melt feature, and make sure the dish is clear of snow when you start it up. The melt feature is designed to melt snow as it accumulates, not to clear a dish that's already buried, so start clean and let it keep up. Its snow-melt capability handles up to about 25mm (1 inch) per hour.

Yes. Side-by-sides like the Can-Am Defender or Polaris Ranger usually mount via the roll cage, a roof rack, or steel discs on a plastic roof. A low-profile StrikerFab magnetic setup on Steel Mounting Discs is popular for trail use — the dish sits low against wind and branches, and pops off in seconds at camp. For rough trails, add our StrikerFab Rock & Bug Deflector and Polycarbonate Shield to protect the dish from branches and debris.

Easily. The Mini is compact — about 11.75" × 10.2", and the dish itself weighs under 2.5 lb — so a flat-mounted Mini and StrikerFab mount fit on virtually any vehicle roof, hood corner, truck cab, or rack platform. Our StrikerFab mounts add minimal footprint beyond the dish itself, and low-profile options keep the total height down for garages and off-road clearance.

The Mini runs on DC natively, so you can skip the inverter. Just note: the cable that comes with your Mini works great with the included AC adapter, but it's not rated to carry 12V DC power — so you'll want a cable built for the job. We sell custom StrikerFab cables for exactly this: DC car adapters, USB-C PD adapters, and direct-wire kits, in lengths from 3 to 6 meters to fit your application.

On average, about 25–40W in use — low enough for short periods with the vehicle turned off, or to run off a modest power station or auxiliary battery without an inverter. It can draw up to about 100W when actively melting snow, so size your power source with that peak in mind.

A couple of options. A StrikerFab Security Tether anchors the dish to the vehicle or rack — it deters grab-and-go theft and doubles as a backup if a mount ever loses grip. Our Launch Pad setup, which works on many roof racks, also lets you use a small padlock to lock the dish in place. And since our quick-release mounts come off in seconds, it's just as easy for you to take the dish inside when you park.

Yes — that's the beauty of our modular design. With magnets, the mount attaches to most steel-roofed vehicles; for aluminum roofs, add a set of StrikerFab Steel Mounting Discs. If your other vehicle has a roof rack, you can add a set of Quick Release Brackets or our Launch Pad there. Either way, the same dish-and-mount assembly transfers between vehicles in seconds.

Yes for most racks — 80/20 extrusion, aero T-track, and many proprietary channels. See our Starlink Roof Rack Compatibility Guide for the full list by brand and model, plus the exact hardware to use with each. If your rack isn't listed, contact us and we'll confirm.

Series 10 and Series 15 refer to the 80/20 aluminum extrusion profile. Series 10 is roughly 1" (25mm); Series 15 is roughly 1.5" (40mm). Measure the flat top of your crossbar to identify which you have. Prinsu, Sherpa, and Wescott all use Series 10.

Not on their own, since aluminum and fiberglass aren't magnetic. Add our StrikerFab Steel Mounting Discs, which bond to the roof with strong VHB adhesive and give the magnets a solid steel surface to grip. This works on aluminum-body trucks, fiberglass camper shells, and RV roofs — and it sits lower than a vacuum setup.

Yes. Our Steel Mounting Discs seat perfectly between the roof ridges on newer F-250/F-350 trucks, giving the magnets a rock-solid surface to grip on the aluminum roof.

It depends on where you're mounting. Directly to the roof: we recommend our StrikerFab magnetic mount with a set of Spacers to clear the Sprinter's raised roof ridges (they're taller than our 8mm magnets, so the spacers let the mount seat flat). To a roof rack: it depends on your rack — give our Mount Finder a try, or reach out and we'll help you find the best solution over a call or email.

We have options that aren't listed online. Reach out to sales and we'll get you the right hardware.

Yes — we make adapters for that, including our Batwing sunroof adapters that let you mount inside the vehicle through the sunroof. By request, we can also add rivnuts to these adapters so they're easily removable with thumbscrews — that lets you pop the adapter in and out while keeping the magnets on the bottom of the mount, so the same mount can be used outside the vehicle or on other vehicles. This is a per-request option right now, so reach out to sales.

When the dish is mounted on a moving vehicle, it's best to mount it flat, pointing straight up. That gives it the best clear line of sight to the sky no matter which direction you're driving. A fixed tilt only helps when you're pointed a specific way, which doesn't work well when the vehicle is moving and changing direction.

Caps secure the dish at the corners, leaving the face open — it's the lightest, simplest setup with a clean look. The Poly Shield adds a clear polycarbonate cover over the dish face that takes the hits from extreme debris and weather, and protects the dish during transport and storage (toss it behind the seat without worry). The cover can scratch over time, but your dish stays protected. It adds about 1 lb and gives a more finished look.

Yes — deliberately. Our mounts are designed and manufactured in the USA and shipped from Florida. Every aluminum frame is fabricated here, and every plastic component is printed in-house from premium USA-made ASA filament. We looked hard at injection molding, but the economics only worked offshore — and offshore meant giving up control over quality and the ability to improve quickly. It's genuinely hard to manufacture in America today, and we choose to fight for it.

Most of our mounts ship fully assembled and ready to use. A few require minor assembly — such as installing the handle or a pair of brackets. Check the product notes for details.

Our mounts carry a 1-year warranty. (Certain items like factory seconds and some third-party hardware are excluded — see the product page.)

Yes — modularity is core to how we design. Our mounts are built as an ecosystem of interchangeable parts. Starlink will keep releasing new dishes, so when the next one arrives, you can buy a basic frame and move over your existing handle, magnets, or brackets — back up and running at a fraction of the cost of a whole new setup. As an example, our Static roof-rack kit can be converted to quick-release later, or fitted with magnets and a handle to make it portable across vehicles.

Skeptical of 3D-printed parts? So are we — that's why ours are engineered and printed to a standard most people don't associate with printing, using premium USA-made ASA filament paired with USA-fabricated aluminum frames. Entire commercial fleets run our mounts daily. We've shipped thousands worldwide with fewer than a dozen manufacturing defects, and every field report feeds directly back into stronger designs and tighter QC.

Yes, when used correctly. For highway use we recommend four vacuum mounts for a secure hold (each holds roughly 120 lb). For low-speed and trail use, two vacuum mounts with low-profile adapters work well. In all cases, check the orange safety indicators before every drive.

Yes. Vacuum mounts have orange safety indicators that must be checked before every drive to confirm a solid seal. If the mounts will be out of sight (like on an RV roof) or you'd rather set it and forget it, we recommend magnets instead — or a security tether as a backup.

It's a backup safeguard for vacuum-mounted setups — especially when the mounts are out of sight and the indicators might not get checked regularly.
